Cuttlebone Plus In 1986, a shell importer who was a friend of Dick Schroeder, owner of CUTTLEBONE PLUS, asked him if he could use any cuttlebone. Dick took the cuttlebone, placed a small ad in a bird magazine, and CUTTLEBONE PLUS was born. In no time, Dick added other items to his product line and eventually purchased AVICO, manufacturer of Lory Life powders and nectars for hummingbirds and other nectar-eating birds. Today, CUTTLEBONE PLUS offers a full line of items. Everyone is invited to call for a catalog or stop by their booth at the Pomona Bird Mart. Dick is a long-time member and supporter of SBBS and is a distinguished aviculturist. He has written articles for most U.S. bird publications and has traveled to various parts of the country to speak at bird clubs and conventions. He has received an Avy award from AFA for his work in helping the Fairy Lorikeet, Charmosyna p. pulchella. For over 20 years, with the help of his wife Maurine and their three sons, Dick has kept and bred exotic birds. He has a collection of over 200 and is well known for his work in breeding Lories, Toucans, Mynahs, Turacos, Tangers, and Honeycreepers.
